WHO WE ARE

What is a Timebank?
And how does it work?

A time bank is a means of sharing skills and resources within your community in exchange for Time Dollars. This type of community currency allows anyone to use their time, energy, skills, and talents to help others (without costing anyone money). Time Dollars are a unit of time, not cash.

You earn 1 hour of time for every 1 hour of help given in your community and to your network of neighbors. Each hour you earn can be used to buy help from other members in your community. The Time Dollars you earn can be spent on any services or products among members. One hour of any type of service = 1 Time Dollar

What does being a "member" mean?

Being a member means that you are a vital part of your community and involved in exchanging your time and/or services as a form of community care. You are an active member in decision making for your community, and are involved in giving time and services as part of a cycle to receiving time and services from others.

Membership is FREE!

Building a Network of Neighbors

Who is in your community?

Timebanking is a great way to rely on each other and our community to meet our needs, opposed to relying on government, state, or businesses. With funding comes stipulations on how to use that funding which causes organizations to inadvertently block community members accessing services they need based on "their worth".

For example, a funding stipulation may require that someone complete an assessment to access services they need. In that assessment, it may be that the person does not have a social security number. Due to this, they are ineligible to access what they need through that government, state, or business organization.

With Salt Lake County Community Exchange, everyone's time, skills, and talents are valued the same. There is no stipulation to receiving services. You present as you are and your community helps you. In return, you help your community the best way you can - with your own unique set of time, skills, and talents.

Timebanking removes barriers to services regardless of financial circumstances, socio-economic backgrounds, or citizenship status. Timebanking is community helping community.

How is time managed?

Applying for an account on Time and Talents is how we manage those shared hours. We already have a couple people and we need YOU to keep growing our community! ❤️

How it works:

If Debra needs help with her garden and Margoth comes over for 2 hours to pull weeds, Margoth will enter the 2 hours of time into the time bank account.

Margoth can then spend 1 hour of time when she asks Katie for help with a sewing project.

Margoth's balance on her account will show 2 hours earned, 1 hour spent, and a remaining balance of 1 hour of "time dollars" to spend later.

Time bank accounts take over the heavy lifting of maintaining Time Dollar balances so that you can focus on building relationships instead!
